My grandpa, Gerald LaVet Erickson, was an architect in the area
around here. He, unfortunately, died when I was seven years old.
After getting into this whole Geocaching thing, I thought that it'd
be a lot of fun to put caches over near places he designed!
You're looking for a well hidden bison tube. Tree coverage may
have affected my GPS signal, but it appeared to be right when I
looked at the coordinates from a satellite image using the
geocaching app on my Droid phone.
The cache is located across the street from St. Stephen's
Episcopal Church (& Preschool), which is - of course - another
building designed by my beloved grampa! It's a very small church,
the sanctuary looks to only hold about 30-40 people in it, but it
is a cute building in a lovely area off of Santa Teresa boulevard.
Not only was this a place that my grampa worked on, but it also
happens to be where my parents got married! So we've got a double
whammy of importance.
Grampa Gerry Anecdote: William Saroyan
When my grampa was a young man, he lived in San Francisco where all
of the creative minded folk lived. He didn't have a lot of money at
the time, but he did have a lot of charisma - so he was always
making friends. One friend he made in the city was a young, up and
coming author named William Saroyan, who was also poor.
One day, William invited Gerry over for dinner. Being a poor,
creative minded person - who was he to turn down a free meal? Upon
arriving at William's apartment, he discovered that Will was not
there but had left the door unlocked so that Gerry could let
himself in. Eventually, he heard the frantic patter of feet running
up the stairs. In burst Will, carrying a very large and very dead
fish, slamming the door behind him.
The fish was stolen.
And apparently delicious!
