Geocache Description:

Cache is a magnetic nano.
Ladies Bay is a peaceful sandy cove to the South of Trow Rocks, but has seen some dramatic events.
Almost 60 years ago a 5000 ton steamship the Richard de Larrinaga was leaving the Tyne bound for Canada when she was bombed by a German aircraft.Disabled, she was taken in tow but eventually broke her back and probably because of the risk that she might sink and block access to the river was allowed to beach some 400 yards out in Ladies Bay. The broken remains can still be seen in about 30 feet of water, making an interesting dive.
Further wrecks have come ashore a little to the South,a First World War patrol vessel and a newly built Dock gate being delivered out of the Tyne broke its tow and drfted ashore. The dock gate remained visible and practically complete for many years before the wave action caused its collapse, only a small portion can now be seen at Low Water.
Cache by permission of National Trust.
