Geocache Description:

This is the first in a series designed to draw geocahers to interesting waterfront areas. Add a little sketch in the log book. Read the maritime poem included. Have Fun!!

This is a very interesting location. It is the lumber storage area for the former shipyard that has been converted into parking for the Harbor Express Ferry. The shipyard was originally founded by Thomas Watson of "Watson Come Here I want to see you" fame. Since that time the shipyard had many names and built hundreds of famous ships including the USS Salem which is now a Ship Museum. The Salem was the Flag Ship of the 6th Fleet in the Med. after WWII.
If you ride the Harbor Express to Downtown Boston, there are 3 cahches within 1/4 mile of the Harbor Express dock at Long Wharf North. There are many more within a reasonable walk. Check out: (Gc2726d Long wharf "aquarium"); (Gc2pkrw Escape Hatch); (Gc2nxdk Tunnel Off Ramp)

Come here early in the morning, get a cup of coffee and watch the ferries get underway. Interesting, relaxing, fun.

EXTRA CREDIT: IN THE FERRY TERMINAL LOBBY THERE IS A SPECIAL PLACE TO HAVE YOUR PICTURE TAKEN. YOU CAN LIVE PARK OUTSIDE. IF YOU GO IN...YOU WILL NOT MISS IT. IT DOES NOT COST ANYTHING, BUT IT WILL BE FUN TO GET A BUNCH OF PHOTOS...WHEN YOU GO IN, IT WILL BE SELF EXPLANATORY. IF YOUR DOG IS WELL BEHAVED, YOU CAN GET HIM/HER IN THE PHOTO AS WELL.
