Geocache Description:

This cache is part of a series of caches highlighting bridges that span the West Branch of the Susquehanna River. Please park at the published coordinates as there is nowhere else to park safely. I'd bring something in case you have to fish the log out of the container. As alway practice stealth and more importantly be careful. If you haven't already searched for it, my Susquehanna Overlook Cache (GC18TDM) is on the other side of the river. Good Luck.

Lumber City is a borough on the north side of the West Branch of the Susquehanna River. It was settled in 1835 and was the third borough to be incorporated in Clearfield County being erected out of part of Penn Township. The date of incorporation was 1858 and represented 329 citizens (2000 census figure was 86 and in 2010 it was lower by a few). It was made a very large boro, area wise, in order to cover a large area that was not covered by a school. The boro's first public school building was erected prior to 1857. The principal industries in Lumber City in 1911 were farming and a large fire brick plant. Historical background came from census records and the book "Twentieth Century History of Clearfield County, PA" by Roland D. Swoope, published in 1911.
