Geocache Description:

A great cache for the beginning orienteer. This cache will require you to explore a small portion of Farrel McWhirter Park's orienteering course. The park closes at dusk, it would be wise to allow some extra time to complete the cache before it closes. As of the writing of this current description 4/22/21 the official geocaching app does not have the feature to project waypoints. Other means available on in your preferred app store are available.

A great cache for the beginning orienteer. This cache will require you to explore a small portion of Farrel McWhirter Park's orienteering course. The park closes at dusk, it would be wise to allow some extra time to complete the cache before it closes. Please read the full description to understand how to get to the final. Orienteering is basically using a map and compass to move from control point to control point. Orienteers use given bearings to lead them in the right direction. These bearings are different depending on whether you are using true north, the direction to the north pole/N 90 degrees, or magnetic north, a constantly moving point which compasses point to. To make this easier, the bearings will be based only on true north. At each location you will find a post with square symbol, an example can be found in the gallery. Some of these symbols are well hidden, intentionally or not. The info given will get you within 50 ft of this symbol (this cache was not hidden by a surveyor, nor is it intended to be surveyor quality). The info needed to get from point to point is provided in the additional WPs. The above coordinates are for the first of these locations. For this multicache we'll use waypoint projection to find each of the 6 waypoints that lead to the final coordinates. You will need to find the first to get to the second and so forth. Nearly every GPS unit has a waypoint projection module built into it, as does the ios geocaching app Cachely and the Android geocaching app C:geo. At the time of this revision, the official Geocaching app from HQ does not include this capability. Even if that is the app you use, you are not out of luck - the Geocaching Toolbox can do this via the web on your browser of choice, so you can use that method as well. Thanks to JCacher15 for starting this cache and maintaining it for years and to Hydnsek for helping me with updates to the description!
