Geocache Description:

The Roman Boathouse, along with the Swiss Bridge, is one of Birkenhead Park’s most impressive features. It is a cube shaped building with Doric style pillars, and has a red-tiled pyramid roof. Beneath, at water level is a semi-circular opening for the storage of small boats. Inside the boathouse is a beautiful pebbled mosaic.

You need to visit the mosaic in the Boathouse to answer the following questions :

A : The year of the Boathouse (earliest of two dates) in the sun
B : The year the Boathouse was restored (latest of two dates) in the sun
C : The number of fish swimming around the edge of the mosaic
D : The number of these fish that have 5 or 6 very sharp teeth
E : The number of large wading birds (wings closed) in the mosaic
F : The number of large flying birds (wings open) in the mosaic
G : The number of small flying birds in the mosaic
H : The number of rays of sunshine coming from the central sun

Then calculate J=B-A and K=E+F+G

You will find the final cache a short walk away at :
N 53 23.(C+H)*(H/E)-F W 003 02.(J+D)*(K/D).

Before heading off for the cache, do take time to admire the views across the lake from the Boathouse. If you look over to the right you’ll see the impressive Swiss Bridge. There is also a nearby viewpoint to your left at N 53 23 671 W 003 02.230 where you get the classical view of the Boathouse in the foreground, and the Swiss Bridge in the background.

Please note, that although the park is open to pedestrians at all times, the large vehicular gates are locked at dusk. If you are attempting the cache in the evening it is advisable to leave your car outside the park so it does not get locked inside.

Thanks to the Birkenhead Park Rangers for all their assistance in placing this cache.
