This Multi will take you on a pleasant walk in this magical village.
È opinione comune, sebbene non provata in maniera definitiva, che il primo insediamento sia stato costruito verso il 700 d.c. dal longobardo Faolfi e da qui, in effetti, potrebbe derivare il nome Castrum Faolfi, corrotto poi in Castelfalfi. Certo è che nel 754 Walfredo di Ratgauso della Gherardesca cita Castelfalfi in occasione di una donazione alla Badia di Monteverdi in Maremma. Nel 1139 fu venduto da Ranieri della Gherardesca al vescovo di Volterra per cento lire. Nel duecento il piviere di Castelfalfi (la chiesa di San Floriano è una costruzione in pietre squadrate) aveva 13 chiese suffraganee. Nel 1475 i proprietari Giovanni di Francesco Gaetani e sua moglie Costanza de' Medici ristrutturano il castello e vi costruiscono l'adiacente villa. Castelfalfi fu saccheggiato e incendiato nel 1554 dalle milizie di Piero Strozzi al tempo della guerra fra Firenze e Siena. Passò poi alla famiglia Medici-Tornaquinci. Durante la seconda guerra mondiale il castello fu sede di una divisione del esercito tedesco, fu quindi preso a cannonate dagli alleati durante la loro avanzata di liberazione del territorio. Oggi il luogo più caratteristico del borgo di Castelfalfi è il Castello, nato in principio come torre d'osservazione costruita durante uno dei primi insediamenti Longobardi nella provincia di Firenze, e successivamente ampliato svariate volte nell'arco dei secoli. Da menzionare anche la villa medicea che, posizionata al centro del borgo, domina l'intera vallata. Originariamente nacque come casa di caccia della famiglia Medici-Tornaquinci. La chiesa di San Floriano rimane ancora oggi in stato d'abbandono. All'interno della Tenuta vi sono 36 casali risalenti a varie epoche, di maggior rilievo sono Cerchiaia e Castelluccio; il primo era una stazione di posta sulla via del sale mentre il secondo era un castello medievale del xv sec.
La struttura fu scelta da Roberto Benigni per girare il film "Pinocchio" e successivamente dal gruppo olandese Endemol per ambientarvi la prima serie de "La fattoria".

It is generally accepted, although not definitively proven, that the first settlement was built around 700 AD by the Lombard Faolfi and from here, in fact, could come as Castrum Faolfi, corrupt then Castelfalfi. It is certain that in 754 of Walfredo Ratgauso Gherardesca cites Castelfalfi during a donation to the Abbey of Monteverdi in Maremma. In 1139 it was sold by Ranieri Gherardesca of the bishop of Volterra. In the two hundred Castelfalfi parish (the church of San Floriano is a square stone building) had 13 suffragan churches. In 1475 the owners of Giovanni Francesco Gaetani and his wife Constance de 'Medici restructure the castle and built the adjacent house. Castelfalfi was looted and burnt down in 1554 by Piero Strozzi militias during the war between Florence and Siena. It then passed to the Medici family-Tornaquinci. During the Second World War the castle was home to a division of the German army, was then gunned down by the Allies in their advance of liberation of the territory. Today's most distinctive in Castelfalfi is the Castle, born in the beginning as an observation tower built during one of the first settlements in the province of Florence Lombard, and subsequently enlarged several times over the centuries.
We should also mention that the Medici villa, located in the center of the village, overlooking the entire valley. Originally born as a hunting lodge of the Medici family-Tornaquinci. The church of San Floriano is still in a state of neglect. Within the estate there are 36 houses dating from various periods, the most important are Cerchiaia and Castelluccio; the first was a post on the salt route and the second was a medieval castle of the fifteenth century.
The structure was chosen by Roberto Benigni in the filming of 'Pinocchio' and then by the Dutch group Endemol for environments the first series of 'The Farm'.
