Geocache Description:

The main gates on Macquarie Street open at 6am & close at 6pm (8pm during daylight savings). The Westmead gate opens at 10am and closes at 3pm on weekdays, but on weekends and public holidays this gate opens at 6am and closes at 6pm (8pm during Daylight Savings).

At 85 hectares, Parramatta Park is one of the largest parks in western Sydney. The park includes historic buildings, archeological zones, historic views and landscapes, remnant and regenerated Cumberland Plain vegetation, waterways and extensive open fields.

The park is a great place to come for a bike ride, walk or run, or a relaxing picnic. There are playgrounds, BBQs, picnic tables, a cafe near the river and a restaurant in the old Government House.

This cache is hidden in the part of Parramatta Park is known as "Little Coogee". It was a popular swimming and picnic area as far back as the 1880's.

In 1905 The Parramatta Park Trust gave a local swimming club permission to swim in the river granted they erected a dressing shed and conformed to the bathing rules of the time.

Little Coogee grew in popularity. It was home to the Olympic Carnival of 1914 amongst other events and by 1926 bus services from Guildford were available to bring people to "little Coogee" for a swim.

Today you will find a cafe in this area of the park, but you won't need to go into the cafe to find the cache. You could do this as a park & grab if you really wanted to, but I think it would be nicer if you slow down a little, get on your bike for a ride and spend some time enjoying the park.

At areas around this cache I had good GPS reception, but at the actual hiding spot, the reception was poor (GPSr only claimed about 6m accuracy). But the hint should give away the location if the coordinates start leading you astray. The container is a soft drink pre-form, no room for swaps or trackables. There is a small pencil in the container but it's probably best to BYO pen.
