Geocache Description:

Smiths Falls Then and Now is a series that I've wanted to start for a couple years now. Having done some "Getting to know ....." caches in the Ottawa Valley, I figured with the history of Smiths Falls, we deserved some too.
The historic info about the locations in this series has been obtained from books about Smiths Falls. Very interesting stuff.

The Frost and Wood complex encompassed what is now a place of lodging (straight ahead), The Chambers Street Plaza (to the rear), and also the storefronts on the corner of Beckwith and Chambers Street (to your left). To your far left is the double arch bridge.

Watch for muggles ahead and behind and this is a busy area.

***UPDATE!***

During July 2011, an expansion project was started on the shopping plaza which sits on the original Frost & Wood site. During excavation of the parking lot, I noticed brickwork and stone work underneath. I'm assuming this would have been the original foundation of one of the Frost & Wood complex buildings. Actually, I was walking out of the store when a woman I walked past wondered aloud what the old brick and stonework inside the hole would have been for, of course I was more than happy to fill her in on the information I had researched for the hide.
