Located a short distance from the Jackson County line, the Greenmount community was established in the mid 1870s. At the time coal mining thrived in this part of Laurel County. Later it became a farming community. The railroad played a key role in Greenmount’s early development. The old community store, first owned by W.G. and Nannie Pennington, carried everything residents of the area needed.
Cache is hidden in a pretty typical fashion.
