This cache is located in the Allegheny National Forest ~ a wonderful area of public land open to many recreation activities.
In 2008 a women called Cookie, died after a courageous battle with cancer. Her daughter is my best friend. In 2009 she planned a race to celebrate her mother’s life and benefit the local chapter of Hospice. She mapped out a tough run course on trails and roads in this area. We ran it many times together before the race, race day crossing the finish line together and we continue to run here in all seasons. It is a favorite place for local people to enjoy a variety of activities, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, running, walking… and my favorite MOUNTAINBIKING! I planned this Geocaching adventure in the direction the race was run and set the caches out via mountain bike. Most of the caches are close to the main trail. My hope is that you hike or bike the 11 mile loop as a day adventure. If you aren’t up to that challenge, with some planning and 2 vehicles, you can drive close to about half the caches and have a lovely downhill hike or mountain bike ride in the woods to get the rest of them. A TOPO map would be helpful. Other than what Mother Nature provides ~ there are no modern conveniences.
Helpful links:
* Allegheny National Forest web site: (visit link)
* Hunting is allowed in the area. Check the PaGame Commission link for hunting info: (visit link) Please be careful and wear orange if caching during hunting season.
Please heed those “no trespassing’ signs on posted property. Private land borders the ANF. There is a “well signed” Archery Club in the area as well as drilling and logging operations. If you stay on the most obvious paths, trails and forest roads you won’t encounter private property.
** Enjoy the bubbling Morrison Run as you travel to this cache. You will share this dirt/gravel road with minimal traffic as you hike/bike a gradual elevation incline. Bikes should be the “fat tire” variety ~ skinny tire road bikes won’t do well in the heavy gravel areas.
This is one of 9 caches in the 1 Tough Cookie series placed around this loop. I hope you like the cache and continue on to find my other caches in the area. Enjoy this natural area… take only pictures and leave only footprints or bike tire tracks!
FTF ~ My personal Pathtag is in the cache waiting for you.
