Come join a group of crazy
cachers for an adventure filled day of caching fun in a race around
Crooked Creek Lake.
The race will be a timed two hour event with the contestants racing
around Crooked Creek Lake collecting tokens hidden in twenty
different temporary caches. Some of the caches will be easily
found, representing a 1/1 micro that will contain a token worth 2
points, all the way up to a couple of 5 star terrain 5 star
difficulty caches worth 10 points. (Every difficulty/terrain
star is worth a point) Each cache will also have a bonus
token for the "First to Find Prize" worth varying points depending
on the difficulty of the cache. Also there will be a few field
puzzles that when solved will garner even more bonus points, so
brush up on your Rot13, Morse Code. Braille, Binary,
Semaphore,
etc... After two hours, the player/team with the most
points wins their choice of a barely coveted prize. There is
a one year premium membership gift card, a custom painted ammo can,
a geocoin or two, a nice walking stick, and a few other things
donatated as prizes so far.
Most of the caches will be hidden very near the lake and one will
be
in the lake,
so a canoe would be recommended to help find the caches. (The event
is
BYOC Bring Your Own
Canoe) However it will be possible to win
without a watercraft with a little luck and a lot of sweat.
Some of the caches will be close to a trail and the lake,
making them easy to get to by foot or paddle. The rest are a
little more difficult for different reasons,(most due to some
extreme terrain) but they will contain clues on how to open locks
on two special caches. One special cache will be a floating
cache in the middle of the lake and the other will be a cryptex
hidden on the shore.
Everyone is encouraged to come and sign the log book, even if you
just want to watch. Events are a great place to meet the
person behind the caching moniker, get a hint about a tough hide,
or to rub elbows with others who have the same passion for this
great game.
If the weather becomes an issue we'll postpone the event to later
in the day, or Sunday if needed.
Below is the list of caches that
will be hidden for the competition. On the evening before the
event, the actual coordinates for each hide will get updated so be
sure to check back so you can get the caches loaded into your
gadgets.
