Geocache Description:

Trades welcomed by the container (and the elves)!! From this spot, you just might be able to imagine what this area used to be. Can you envision soldiers entering the adjacent building? Can you see the jeeps driving along the tree-lined roads?

Elf HQ is located in the area once known as the Erie Ordnance Depot (EOD). In 1918, this area of 1,127 acres was originally established as the Camp Perry Proving Ground, and later designated Erie Proving Ground, Erie Ordnance Depot (1920), and Erie Army Depot. During World War II, over 5,000 people were employed here testing artillery, tank guns, and armor plate. During peacetime it served as a storage, maintenance, and repair facility. It remained a U.S. Army facility until its closure in January 1967. There are now only a few active businesses in this area (none near this cache). In searching for the 4 caches placed here, you will see that some of the old buildings remain.

The roads can be bumpy in many areas however, they are passable. Enjoy the tour, go exploring and always remember to practice ‘safe caching’ while doing so!
