[ITA] L'eremo e santuario è ubicato a Santa Caterina, nei pressi dell'Orto dei Semplici Elbano, a 260 metri di altezza. Si tratta di un luogo di meditazione e di preghiera che fonda le sue radici in epoca romanica, anche se restaurato nel 1634. A navata unica con soffitto a capriate, ha una facciata molto semplice, con un timpano spezzato sopra il portale e due finestrelle; sul lato destro si può ammirare una lapide che testimonia il restauro del 1973. Il basso campanile ha la cuspide a forma di piramide. L'interno è pressoché privo di decorazioni, così come l'altare che appare molto semplice.
Secondo la tradizione la sua origine sarebbe legata ad una serie di apparizioni della santa ad un ragazzo del luogo, in ricordo delle quali, ogni anno, il lunedì dopo Pasqua, si celebra una festa (Sagra della Sportella). Raggiungerlo è molto semplice, percorrendo una breve strada sterrata, segnalata, che parte dalla comunale Rio nell'Elba-Nisporto. La cache è un piccolo contenitore da alimenti.
[ENG] The hermitage and sanctuary, along with the "Orto dei Semplici Elbano", is located in Santa Caterina, near Rio nell'Elba, at an elevation of 260 meters. This is a place of meditation and prayer that has its roots in Roman times, though it was restored in 1634. The church is simple with a single nave with beamed ceiling and a simple facade with a broken pediment over the doorway and two windows. On the right side you can see a plaque with information on the restoration of 1973. The low tower has the cusp-shaped pyramid. The interior is almost with no decoration, as well as the altar that is very simple. According to tradition, its origin is linked to a series of appearances of Santa Caterina to a boy, in memory of which, each year, the Monday after Easter, there is a festival (Sagra della Sportella). Reaching it by car is very easy; just park the car off the main road from Rio nell'Elba to Nisporto and follow a short unpaved road on foot. The cache is a small food container.
