Geocache Description:

THIS CACHE WILL BE REMOVED AND ARCHIVED ON SUNDAY 10TH MARCH. SADLY, DUE TO THE BRIDGE BEING REMOVED AND REPLACED WITH A MODERN, BIGGER BRIDGE.

A quick cache and dash on the Midland road.

There are two reasons for this cache.
Firstly, the 'Destructor Bridge' on the midland road is a wonderful piece of engineering that deserves a few more visitors than it gets.
It is situated in a quiet area that is used as a 'cut through' from the Upper Bristol Road to the Lower Bristol Road across the river Avon.

Originally built by the Midland Railway Company it was used as the access bridge to Green Park Station when the station was opened circa 1870.
The bridge was sold in 1905 when it was deemed unsuitable for Midland Railway purposes. Replaced by the present structure at the station this bridge was moved to Midland road. It was named the 'Destructor bridge' as it then joined the city's Scavenger yard (a type of recycle yard) to a giant incinerator situated across the river. The incinerator was know as a 'Destructor' thereby providing the bridge's new title.
Known as a Truss bridge it is made up of criss crossed sections, hence the cache name.

**Big thankyou to theCELTs for finding more info on this lovely old bridge**

Secondly, this site is ideal as a quick cache and dash for cachers travelling through Bath to other places such as Bristol. Therefore the cache container is big enough for small items such as trackables.

Although the terrain here is accessible by most, please be aware that it is a road so keep an eye on children.

This area is frequently used by muggles during the day but is virtually deserted in the evenings.

**NOTE There is no need to go below the bridge. Due to the amount of DNFs on a relatively new cache I have changed the difficulty rating to 2 star. Please let me know in your logs what you think after doing this cache. Thanks**

The original contents in this cache are; A UK flag micro Geocoin, Bath Spa TB, clip pen, note book, pencil, packet of Tic Tacs, googly eyed monster keyring, Celtic flower Geocoin.
