Geocache Description:

Congratulations to Mr&MrsBubbleMaker and jump1250agl for FTF.

Welcome to Gulf State Park. This is the fifth in a series of “Gator Bait” caches that were designed around two things I felt our area lacked. First, I felt that we should have a series of caches that focused more on the aquatic resources, with a particular focus on sites that can be accessed only by kayak or canoe. Secondly, I wanted to create some caches that required a little extra effort to get to. These caches are not intended for the weak at heart.

The Gator Bait series is designed to take advantage of the beautiful lakes and marshes in Gulf State Park. The lakes include “Little Lake” which is spring feed and feeds via a canal to “Middle Lake”, which then feeds into “Lake Shelby”. Eventually, Lake Shelby flows into a marsh which meanders its way to “Little Lagoon” and eventually opens into the Gulf of Mexico at Callaway Pass.

“Gator Bait V” is located under a canopy of trees in beautiful Middle Lake in the Gulf State Park Campground. This will likely be the most difficult of the Gator Bait Caches.  You will need to navigate your canoe or kayak around a "Canopy" of a beautiful Live Oak tree that overhangs the Lake. You are looking for a small, camouflaged bison tube.  You do not need to leave your canoe or kayak to get to this cache.  We only saw one very small gator while in route to this cache.

Please do not attempt to access this cache by land.  The terrain is very treacherous, you will have to wade out in the water to get to the cache, and you could easily be standing in the middle of a alligator nest before you know it.

I hope you enjoy this series of caches and the journeys that you will take to get to them. It is my intention for these caches to be more about the journey than the arrival.

There is a small fee for access to get to Middle Lake, unless you are a registered guest of Gulf State Park.

BYOP.  Good hunting and don’t let the Gators Git ya!

I hope you have enjoyed all the geocaches we have placed in Gulf State Park, along with the rest of your experience here  Please consider giving us some feedback here.  We would appreciate it if you would include something about your geocaching experience.  We hope to show the bosses in Montgomery how many people geocache, in hopes that they will encourage other Parks to invest in it like we have, here at Gulf State Park.  Thanks, Dothenumbers.
