A circular, 2-mile walk taking you around the spine of Crosland
Moor, and along the apex of the Colne Valley. A great way to
explore the best side of Crosland Moor, drinking in a breathtaking
panorama of the entire Colne Valley along the way.
This series of caches takes you along a little-known public
footpath over and through an old quarry that's been out of use for
around 150 years. From Manchester Road below, the quarry is almost
invisible, blending in seamlessly with the hill. But once you're up
there it offers a beautiful walk through an unexpectedly extensive
piece of urban countryside.
The Crosland Moor
Bypass has recently been revamped to turn this
previous series of caches into a circular, 2-mile walk,
incorporating existing caches, moving others, and adding several
more to guide you around a cross-country and urban circuit without
using the same path twice.
As you continue west from Boulderdash, the path narrows as it
meets the fireworks factory's fence. Branch off to the right at the
first tree, and follow the small path around the back of the two
trees up ahead. You shouldn't be too stumped by this one (*ahem*),
as there's a landmark that shouts out to geocachers.
Afterwards, follow the narrow path back the way you came, or
scramble up the shallow banking to the bigger path at the top and
head back toward the quarries. This time, follow the fence as it
turns sharply right and heads up around the top of the field, which
will take you east toward the next cache in the series.
A note about the name of this cache: Initially
this cache was located somewhere nearby, that Groundspeak didn't
like, but by then we'd labelled the container and put notes in all
the other caches in the series; hence, Tenko. Oh well.
