I am once again organizing a group of geocachers to participate in this years river clean up. Last year we had 18 geocachers represent our group for the cleanup and we all had a great time. This years clean up float will be held on Saturday, June 11th, 2011. The float will be 6.5 miles and will last around 5 hours. All floaters are encouraged to collect as much trash as possible. Drop off your personally owned boats at the Delaware Town Access point (waypoint listed below). An event volunteer will be on site to watch your gear. Then proceed to the the Shelvin Rock Access point (posted coords). Each participant must meet at the posted coordinates of the Shelvin Rock Access Point beginning at 07:30 am but no later than 8:00 am on June 11th for final event registration and a mandatory safety briefing. This year's event will be on the James River. All participants will be shuttled by the James River Basin Partnership up to the Delaware Town Access Point to begin the CITO/float back to Shelvin Rock Access.
Gloves and trash collection bags will be provided.

This event has three types of participation options available.

1. For participants who own there own canoe or kayak there is a 5.00 per person fee. If you don't own a canoe and would like to reserve one a limited amount are available and that cost is 20.00 per person. Those fees will include getting you transported to the float put in area and you will float back to where your vehicle is parked. Each paid participant will be given an event t-shirt at the cleanup and a ticket to attend the "Dam Jam Concert" at the posted alternate waypoint coordinates below at 6:00pm that night. Attending the "Dam Jam Concert" is not required to earn your smiley.

2. Free Option - Anyone who would like to participate in a shoreline cleanup that day may do so without a fee but will not get the t-shirt or concert ticket. You will be making the world a better, happier, shining place and will earn your smiley for event participation.

3. Melissa is also looking for staff event volunteers. If you have what it takes to be a staff event volunteer please contact Melissa directly for information about putting yourself up to the challenge. All staff event volunteers will also earn a smiley.
