Imagine my excitement this week when I figured out that the area
next to my golf course is conservation land with a trailhead and
trails, and not fully populated by geocaches already! Just to be
clear, I don’t own the golf course, I’m not even a
member of the club. I just play in a league there.
Ever eager to combine a couple different hobbies, and to share
this with my golf partners, I decided to place caches in the holes
in the golf course, so that we can make finds and pars at the same
time. Not really. Instead, after golf we headed over to the
conservation land for a hike in the woods. Inevitably, since they
aren’t geocachers, talk turned back to golf, mainly boasting
of our prodigous golfing abilities. It came to a head along the
trail, and we pulled out our favorite clubs and had it out.
First up, Bubba teed it up and hit a magnificent drive, 364
yards (Yes you read that right!), from the conservation area, back
onto the golf course, over the water and onto the 13th green, and
into the cup, which happened to be located at N 42 21.380, W 71
21.984 on that day.
Not to be outdone, Phil pulled out his trusty 3W and favorite
dimpled orb and laced his shot 306 yards, onto the 14th green,
where it took 1 bounce and fell into the hole for another Ace! The
greenskeeper had placed the pin at N 42 21.283, W 71 21.781.
Next up is Arnold, who’s getting up in years. He teed it
up and with a mighty effort, launched a drive 291 yards, toward the
11th green, where the flag was located at N 42 21.250, W 71 21.770.
Incredibly, it bounced in the green side rough, rolled up onto the
green and right into the cup, for his hole in one!
What could I possibly do to compete with these guys? They are
not impressed by the ability to sniff out a camouflaged kiosk nano,
or by coming up with a bison tube in the woods! (Not that I could
do either of those well anyway!) So I pull out my 5 wood, prop up a
golf ball nicely on an acorn, and craft a beautiful high arcing
shot 233 yards onto the 12th green, where it lands right in the
cup, on the fly! Another hole in one, this time at coords N 42
21.311, W 71 22.001!
Your job is to figure out where we teed off from. At that place
you will find a geocache that I placed to commemorate the day I
took my golfing buddies out geocaching! Since the cache is located
not far off the trail, please take care to conceal the container
well when you put it back.
