Wild Horse Wind & Solar (Sunday - overflow) Tour Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

Ice and Wind: I'm going to archive this old event listing. I'm sure that everyone that attended has had an opportunity to log their visit.

Many thanks to the cache owner for hosting this fun event but please remember in the future that one of the responsibilities of hosting an event is to archive the listing after a few weeks so it no longer appears on nearby searches and pocket queries.

Thank you.

Geocache Description:

WILD Horse Wind Farm and Solar Facility Tour May 22nd 9AM

Entrancesign

THERE IS AN EVENT CAP OF 50 PARTICIPANTS

visitor center1 (63K)

The South-Central and Cache-cadian Chapters of the Washington State Geocaching Association invites you to meet up with fellow geocachers for a close-up personal tour of a wind farm and cutting edge utility-scale solar facility.

The Puget Sound Energy (PSE) Wild Horse Wind and Solar Facility is a renewable energy complex that harnesses the power of both the wind and the sun. The facility is located off the old Vantage highway on Whiskey Dick Mountain

visitor center2 (87K)Closed-toed shoes are required and participants will be required to wear hard hats and safety glasses during the facility tour. Children are allowed, they just need to be old enough to wear a hard hat. There will be a WSGA Meet & Greet with light snacksSATURDAY May 21st after the initial tour at approximately 4:30PM.

Due to the quick jump in numbers wanting to attend the event on Saturday GC2RVD4, we have worked to allow an additional event the following morning. However, this event will be presentation and tour ONLY. So, please get your "will attend" log in as soon as possible for the appropriate event.

EraSeeks’s GC1FZPH“Giants in the Earth” cache is in the parking lot of the Horse Heaven Hills facility, and Navigatorz’s GC1C09Y “Trees of Stone” Earthcache is at the Ginko Petrified Forest in nearby Vantage. Stay tuned for some new “Permit Required” caches being released on the Wind Farm property before the event as well!

If you want to stay overnight there are several hotels in Ellensburg, or Wanapum State Park in Vantage is a really nice camping facility.

EARLY CAMPGROUND RESERVATIONS are highly recommended if you want to stay at the state park.

We plan to release about 10-20 new caches in the Vantage area the weekend of the event.   For a list of the caches being released, check for a bookmark list on this event page that we will create using our personal caching name "Mazeracer" - we'll try to keep it up to date as the new caches are released!  We are going to try to have the caches release a couple days before the event so they'll be available for your pocket query.

If you plan to attend this event, please respond with a “Will Attend” and include the number of people in your party. Also, please add a "will attend" log on the GC2RVD4 page to let us know if you also intend to be there for the meet and greet after Saturday's tour (4:30 PM start time anticipated for the M&G).

Please PRINT, FILL OUT AND BRING THIS with you - the folks at the wind farm have asked that we try to expedite the collection of waivers so that the presentation and tour can be started as soon as possible.

Also, if you will be wanting to go after the new "permit required" series of caches on the PSE property, you can fill out this form to have your permit ready to be picked up at the visitor center when you arrive. You will just need to stop and sign instead of having to spend some time reading through the info and watching the short video. It saves work for everyone, and they highly encourage you to use this method to get the permit.

This event is sponsored by the South Central & Cache-cadian Chapters of the Washington State Geocaching Association. If you are a geocacher in the state of Washington, please consider joining WSGA. See the WSGA website for details.
