This simple offset multicache pays homage to a little-known tragedy that occurred in this area during World War II.
On August 11, 1942 at 1430hrs, Avro Anson AW678 of 2 Air Observer School based in Mt Gambier, was on a routine training mission in the Reedy Creek area when it crashed due to reasons unknown.
The aircraft was totally wrecked and immediately caught fire.
The five airmen on board the aircraft were killed in the tragedy, which was the third to occur involving an aircraft from 2AOS.
Training accidents such as this occurred frequently during the war; cemeteries and monuments at former training bases such as Mount Gambier and Mallala are, unfortunately, all too common.
In 2007, the plaque you see at the given coordinates was erected to honour the memory of the crash victims.
To find the cache location, you will need to answer the following questions:
A: LAC Fletcher was 2? years old.
B: The first number in the second man's service number.
C: The third number in the first man's service number.
D: The last number in the first man's service number.
E: The fourth number in the last man's service number.
F: The last man was aged 2?, plus one.
Cache is located at S36 55.ABC, E140 00.DEF.
