The Cache to Eagle Project of the Llano Grande District, Rio Grande Council, Boy Scouts of America, highlights Eagle Scout Community Service Projects that have been conducted by Eagle Scout candidates in the mid-valley area of the Lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas. An Eagle Scout Service Project emphasizes a Scout’s leadership abilities to plan and supervise the implementation of a community service project.
Cache 2 of 12 (Signs) is an Eagle Scout Community Service Project that was completed in June, 2009, by Michael S. and Troop 34 of Weslaco, TX. The purpose of the project was to make and install trail signage at each of the 14 trail intersections within the Valley Nature Center. There are 53 signs mounted on 14 posts for the 13 different trails. The project required 123 hours to plan and complete; the work was done by the Scouts and adult leaders of Troop 34, and employees of the Valley Nature Center. The materials cost $292.00, which was contributed by family, friends and local businesses.
The cache is outside the park, so it is not necessary to enter the property unless you want to pay a visitor fee and see the signage for yourself and perhaps add a bird or two to your life list. You can see one of the signs across the gate from the cache site.
Inside the cache are a log and a definition of the third point of the Scout Law. Please log your visit and return the cache to its place.
