Værnes Kirke Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

cervisvenator: Hi

While I feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for the cache owner and block other cachers from placing a cache in the area around this cache for a reasonable amount of time, we can’t do so forever.

Nothing seems to happen with this cache listing, so it is now archived, so that someone else can place a cache in the area, and geocachers can once again enjoy visiting this location. Also, if it hasn’t been done already, please pick up any remaining cache bits as soon as possible.

If the owner wants it reopened, send me an e-mail and I’ll be happy to unarchive the cache listing if it still satisfies the requirement/guidelines.

(This reviewer note is in English so non-Norwegian cache owners, geocachers and cache reviewers can understand what it says.)

Thanks for your understanding,
Cervis Venator

21.juni – 14.august kl. 11 -16. Mandag stengt. Omvisning for grupper heleåret på bestilling.

Construction on this churtch started around 1100 AD, which maks it one of NorThe church's unique cultural treasure with trusses as the most special treasure. It is well 800år old roof has a span of as much as 11 meters and is unique among surviving medieval roofs.
The roof is used so the inspiration for reconstruction of the roof in several monumental buildings in this country and elsewhere in Scandinavia, such as the ceiling of the Cathedral transept and Håkonshallen Bergen.
They carved grotesque heads on the end of each truss are rare. "Værnes Rock" from 1685, frescoes and inscriptions are all interesting parts of the church's long history.
Outside there are several nice details, like the lion in choir and the magnificent portal of the church's north wall. The clock on the tower is from the 1700s. However arbeidsomst to pull up, and therefore unfortunately longer "breaks".

The church is situated 2km southeast of Stjørdal, close to Stjørdal museum Værnes. Guided tour are available ( from the museum) for groups on request all year arouund. Guided tours summer June 21 - August 14, at. 11 -16. Monday closed.
