A quick cache’n’dash on the edge of the town that is wor ld famous for ice cream! The cache is a 35mm canister covered in camo tape.
Parkgate was an important port from the start of the eighteenth century, in particular as an embarkation point for Ireland. The River Dee, which served as a shipping lane to the Roman city of Chester, had silted up, in part by 383 AD, creating a need for a port further downstream. Quays were built, first at Burton and later near the small town of Neston but further silting required yet another re-siting slightly further downstream near the gate of Neston's hunting park. The settlement of Parkgate was born. On the parade, one of the many striking features is the now closed Mostyn House Boarding School. It was opened in 1855 and sadly closed in 2010 due to a lack of new students. During these years, the school was run by the Grenfell family.
The cache is on the junction of Leighton Road and B5135 Boathouse Lane . The junction can get extremely busy so watch out with young geo-kids whilst searching.
