Alternative Energy Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Wonder Boy: Although the county roads are in great need of gravel
the county DOT has instead decided to remove tress.
Most have just been torn out or ripped off. The result
is many of my caches are now gone. I will wait till the
county has moved on to see if they will clean up their
mess and then place new caches later. My apologies
for the way the county has performed.

Geocache Description:

PLEASE REMEMBER CACHE IN AND TRASH OUT

I have run along these gravel roads for over 20 years now. A number of years
ago as I was heading back home I saw these structures starting to rise far to the
east. It tuned out to be the first large scale electric wind generating farm in
Iowa and at that time was one of the largest in the country. It is located on “Buffalo
Ridge” which is natural high ground that extends from NE South Dakota,
through SW Minnesota and far into Iowa. There are many of these wind
farms now located in these three states along this ridge. The ridge almost always
has some wind blowing on it, which makes it an ideal site for these wind turbines.
Iowa is one of the leading states developing alternative energy sources.
