This is a nice place to stop, look around, or rest on a ridge above Waldo Canyon. *** As of June 22, 2018 Waldo Canyon Trail is NOT open to the public and the parking area along Hwy. 24 is blocked off. You will need to use your navigation skills to get to the cache. Ignore the reference points given until the trail is open to the public. ***
The trail heads and trails in this area are going to be redone. The original parking area off of Hwy 24 may never be opened again do to heavier traffic on Hwy 24. Other locations are planned.
This is a new location and a somewhat larger container than the original "Hiker's Rest Stop" cache.
The Waldo Canyon Trail is very popular so the parking area fills up fast in summer. Since this cache is up a ridge be aware of the possibility of afternoon thunderstorms. It is a hot trail on a hot day, so take plenty of water.
Rattlesnakes are primarily down on the flatlands but have been spotted while hiking the Waldo Canyon Trail (rare) so be careful where you put your feet, hands, or sit down. Watch out for the sharp points on the Yucca plant.
