This cache has been archived.

Deceangi: Rather than keep this cache temporarily disabled (which should only be used for shortish periods) I'm archiving it. If/when the cache is ever replaced I'll gladly unarchive it assuming it still meets the guidelines.

Please Note! Six months from the date of the Listing being Archived, is the maximum period, in which this Listing will be eligible to be considered for Unarchiving

Please avoid geolitter by removing any remaining traces of your cache or contact a local cacher to do so for you. If you are having difficulty doing so then please contact me via my profile and I will try to get someone to assist. This is particularly important if your cache appears to contain Travelbugs or Geocoins.

How Geocaching Works

Geocache Description:

Small container, containing only logbook - please bring pen(cil)

On the edge of a black 'desert'; part of the old coal workings around the area.
There is no particular path but it's part of a wide open space (without nettles or brambles)

If approaching this from B2N #3 {Just In Timber (Lake)} then go under the bridge and turn left immediately on the dirt path, to cross the stream (or if muddy you can go over the bridge and turn right!). Conversely, if approaching from B2N #4 (Stop, Look, Listen) do not cross the stream, you are on the correct side.

From the 19th to the mid-20th centuries, this area had its fair share of coal mining. There were several deep seam mines, also most of the land between West Hallam village and Ilkeston, together with much of what is now the Hallam Way estate, was opencast mined in the middle of the 20th Century.

Note for those with children: there is water a little distance away, with enticing trails towards it; this will be more apparant after wet weather. Please ensure their safety by not letting them wander
