Great Expectations Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

thebuttonmushroom: Hi all,

The time has come for me to archive this cache.

Thanks to everyone who solved the puzzle and found the cache.

Sorry if you were one of those who attempted to find it but had to DNF - unfortunately I do not know where this cache has got to, whether it has been moved so far from its original place, been stolen, muggled or just the local wildlife or weather have transported it somewhere. Perhaps I should have bought a metal detector?

Well done to all those who worked out that the cache name not only referred to the puzzle but also to the cache size. Nowhere on the listing did it say just how big an ammo box you were looking for! [;)]

If you do manage to find it, feel free to log but please send me a photo of it if possible!

Now go find a proper sized ammo can like my Half-Jasmer Challenge!! [:D]

Geocache Description:

A full ammo can hidden in Covert Wood.

As with all puzzle caches, this is not at the co-ordinates above; these are instead a good place to start once you've cracked the puzzle below.

I placed this on a lovely day, enjoying the tranquillity of the area. It would be a good cache to combine with the Covert Caching series.

Please be sure to replace any geoflage you disturb when retrieving the cache and please leave the pencil in the cache, although it might be wise to bring a pen or something just in case it does go missing!

Cash for cache! There is a cash prize for the FTF! Get your skates on!

The puzzle:

I must point out that there are areas of Covert Wood which are fenced off to allow the trees to grow and to keep deer out. There is no need to go through these areas to reach the cache. The co-ordinates at the top of the listing are the ones you should aim for, following clear paths as shown on maps or the satellite image. You should then use the co-ordinates obtained from the puzzle to take you to the cache location. See the additional waypoints below for where I parked.

Please note that since hiding this cache, a lot of forestry work has been done in the area, resulting in a lot of churned up paths making them very muddy indeed (so bring boots) and plenty of debris at GZ but also the winter storms brought a lot of trees down so the terrain rating has been increased to 4 given the battle you'll face getting here!

Good luck!
