Cache Need To Know
You are looking for decent sized cache. Originally designed as a bonus cache which could be found by collecting the clues on blue dots in caches around the series I have decided to open this up as a traditional cache as it's not being used much and is a lovely cache. I have moved the cache slightly to take it out of view of the car park and move it away from some buried barbed wire. The cache can now be found at the listed co-ordinates, hopefully it's of a size and convenient position that might encourage its use for larger TB's that a lot of caches can't accommodate. At the time of setting the cache contained swag with a flying theme and was designed to keep the youngsters occupied. Bearing this in mind please bring swag to trade and please trade fair. Parking and all other relevant information is found in the details of EW01 Ewelme-Walk Intro
Don't Need To Know But It Might Be Of Interest
RAF Benson is a prominent neighbour of Ewelme. Building began in 1937 when Nazi invasion became an imminent threat, the first aircraft located here in 1939.
The base was the home of the Kings Flight for a while. During WW2 the base was largely used for training and aerial reconnaissance. German aircraft attacked on several occasions and once got a direct hit on the air raid shelter, it is said there were no casualties as a warning had not been given and the shelter was empty.
After WW2 the base was demobilised but subsequently went on to become a home to many prominent squadrons and notably the Kings Flight and in later years the Queens Flight.
In 1955 the base was awarded its own station badge a lion overlaying a gold scallion (gold scallop shell). The lion signifies the Duchy of Cornwall as the base was built on land belonging to the Duchy. The scallop signifies a medieval emblem for pilgrims, a symbol of their mobility. The motto “Spectemur Agendo” translates as “Let us be known by our actions”

RAF BENSON STATION BADGE
Currently RAF Benson houses the police support unit and Chiltern Air Ambulance along with a whole host of helicopters which I often see from my home when they are out training.
