This cache has been archived.

hiddencovey: I moved to Bemidji about two years ago so I will be closer ( 50 miles) to the hospital. Now I will archive some of my caches by Mizpah and Northome.

Geocache Description:

The cache is 2 blocks South of Hwy 71 and turn East on Pleasant St. It is easy to drive to and park close to as the street has pavement and curb. A wheelchair into the park is accessible through the lawn mower entrance.

Mizpah finished the Memorial Park in 1948. The village built the monument and on it is written "Mizpah Honors Roll World War 2, to their country, in time of need, these boys and girls pledged life, fortune and sacred honor, so that we may live and peace." The names of the 119 men and women from this community are on the monument. Some veterans requested our government to ship a cannon for their Memorial Park and much to their surprise one arrived in a railroad car.

The population of Mizpah has been declining for years but it is still a community filled with American patriotic pride. Every Memorial Day the park has small American flags lined along each side of the walkway. The cemetery has flags placed on the graves of each vetern for Memorial weekend and the American Legion and VFW give the 21 gun salute as the names of local veterans who have passed away are called out and a wreath with poppies is placed on a veteran's grave. Many former residents come 'home' to attend and following the cemetery service gather together at the community center for coffee and rolls and fellowship.

The cache is big enough to hold some small items and please put it back exactly the way you found it. Have fun.
