Rawdon Colliery
This is a cammo screw top micro tube, log sheet and pencil, sorry no room for swaps or TBs. Parking available at Conkers (a short walk away).
Moira was a mining village, getting its name from the Irish earldom of Moira, one of the titles of the Hastings family, whose castle was in nearby Ashby-de-la-Zouch. Our cache is placed in the vicinity of where the Rawdon Colliery stood until its closure in 1990. Moira is one of the few place names in England to end in an "a". For centuries North West Leicestershire has been quarried and mined and the environmental damage was one of the reasons that it was chosen as the site for the National Forest. Just a short walk along the main road is the National Forest Millennium Discovery Centre - now called Conkers.
The GeoKids were keen to get some caches placed, so this is our first one close to one of their favourite places - Conkers. Be aware of a ditch near to the cache. Hopefully the coordinates will be reasonably accurate and people will actually find it! I hope so, it's all very exciting!
I hope you enjoy a walk around the area, maybe a visit to Conkers or logging more caches. Please let me know if there are any problems, as it's my first hide, I want to make sure it all goes smoothly!
Congratulations to the "thefieldingfive" who were the First To Find.
