Hogan's Heroes ..... Traditional Cache

Because the depiction of these befuddled officers bears little resemblance to the way real-life Nazis behaved, Hogan's Heroes has always been surrounded in controversy. Objections have been raised since the series first aired concerning the treatment of German soldiers as lovable buffoons.

But, much of the show's popularity has always had more to do with the characterization of the American soldiers, particularly the suave, coolly intelligent Colonel Robert Hogan (Bob Crane). Hogan leads his multi-ethnic band of men on a never-ending series of comic capers, all of which have the express purpose of defeating the enemy in the most humiliating way possible. The show's humor is also largely dependent on the idiocy of Col. Klink and Sgt. Schultz who, in spite of their relentless bravado, are nothing more than putty in the hands of a soldier as clever as Hogan.
Under Stalag 13 are placed several underground tunnels. These tunnels have been created by the prisoner through the removal of tons of dirt from under the camp. The tunnels are located located throughout the camp, where they lead to such places as the barracks, Klink's office and the cooler, or outside of the camp via the tree tunnel entrance. Inside the tunnels is a radio room where the radio which the prisoners use to stay in touch with London is hidden, a weapons locker for weapons and a clothing locker which contains the costumes that the prisoners would wear as disguises for certain dangerous missions. Also under the tunnels is Carter's lab, where he would conduct his experiments to create explosives for missions. There are also areas inside the tunnels where those who are being helped to escape Germany would be kept until a way is found to help get them to the next point on their journey.
