Pump & Electric
This was the location of the pump & electric building that supported the Civilian Conservation Corps camp Axin from 1933 through 1942. Camp#1661, one of 57 camps located on state and federal lands in Michigan. The CCC program was created in the midst of the great depression to put America's unemployed young men to work. The legacy of Michigan's 94,548 corpsmen includes 485,000,000 trees planted, 7000 miles of road constructed, 157,000,000 fish stocked and other major improvements such as recreation sites, buildings, bridges and airstrips.
There is a shoulder on W.M55 to park on, but the safest parking is on the two track rd off from 25 mile road.
We have included a map of the camp in the gallery, there are old foundations and sidewalks still there if you look for them.
