Geocache Description:

CACHE: This is the first cache we have hidden, and the geo-kids will monitor it carefully. It is a micro (small sealable tube), in a camo bag.

The cache is easily accessible from the path, and you will not need to climb over (or through) any fences / bushes.

I have placed this cache to show people another way into Cuckoos Nook and it surrounding caches, from the other side of the woods to the traditional way in. The footpath isn’t obvious if you are in a car whizzing down Barr Common Road, and I had lived locally for a few years before I realised it was there.

It now provides our entry point for the paths, and I find it a pleasant walk in the open fields in the sunshine before you enter the woods. I have placed this particular cache close to where the path goes in 3 different directions (although not necessarily the ones indicated by the nearby sign, which I think has been twisted around a bit – best to follow the well trodden dirt paths for the right directions).
There are some pretty views and you can see some nearby farms and some horses on the route in.

The start of the public footpath from this side is on Barr Common Road, opposite the entrance to the flats at Winchester Mews (and at GPS N 52.35.598, W001.55.187). There is a ‘Public Footpath’ sign, but it is largely obscured by the greenery.

Please note that Barr Common Road is a very busy road, and cars do travel at some pace, particularly around the nearby bend with Bosty Lane. Take care crossing the road, particularly with children.

PARKING: Whilst there is no parking on Barr Common Road itself, if you go around the turn into the nearby Birmingham Road, there is a service road just off it which usually has parking available. Alternatively, park on the other side of Cuckoos Nook and pick up with the other caches on a nice long walk. It provides a nice interlude into open space out of the woods.

Best of luck.
