Geocache Description:

So you thought that the one & only Loch Ness Monster lives in the peaty depths of Loch Ness.
In the wilds of Easter Ness there grows & thrives a monster ancient Yew Tree.

Known as the Fraser Yew and well revered & respected by the clan. This exceptionally ancient muiti-stemmed yew (Taxus baccata) measures an truly remarkable 100m plus around the canopy circumferance & has a 30m diameter.

It can be likened to the much visited Fortingall Yew in Tayside and is shown on the first OS map of 1871. Within the Highlands its age & stature are exceptional.

I will leave you to find you own way in to the site as that is part of the fun, but in order to get you started. There is a forestry track that starts, from the public road to the Knockie Hotel. This will take you down a track towards a boat house but this also forks off south, roughly parallel to Loch Ness, to the end of the Forestry Commission's land.

Thanks to Stephan Bradly at Knockie Estate for permission to place cache here
