brew-a-cache: Tried to find a suitable location to relocate this cache, but no joy with the recent additional caches and proximity issues. Time to send it to the grave.

Geocache Description:

Please do not attempt this cache from the M1! The location is accessible after a nice walk from the middle of Salcey Forest. Options for parking locations are given below.

Salcey Forest hides many secrets...

Between Milton Keynes (J14) and Northampton (J15) there is a 12 mile long stretch of motorway. To prevent the Emergency Services from having to travel unnecessary distance in the event of an accident on the opposite carriage way, this crossover section was built to potentially half the distance.

I would have named the cache "M1 J14A", but there is already a junction onto the M1 provided at the Newport Pagnell Services which would claim that title.

The parking coordinates in the waymarks below provide a safe position to park your car and have a short (500m) woodland walk to the cache. This is a popular route for horse riders, so keep and eye out for them and their emissions.

The cache is placed just outside the perimeter of Salcey Forest and is accessible on a footpath that heads under the bridge and up to Hartwell.

Alternatively you could park in the official Salcey Forest carpark (which charges) and do the main circular route around the woodlands picking up many more caches on route.

I said that Salcey Forest hides many secrets, so here are a few more:

1) The tree top walk. Found by most people that like to walk in the area, this gives good views on a clear day and is the main attraction advertised to those at the visitor carpark.

2) There is a pond called "The Elephant pond" where Elephants used to bath after a hard days work felling trees during the Second World War.

3) Salcey forest had a railway station of its own from 1893 to 1908, it was little used, so closed down.

4) In January 1984 an IRA arms dump was discovered in Salcey Forest and resulted in McNamee being convicted in 1987 at trial for being a bomb maker.

I'm sure there are many other interesting things about Salcey Forest, but I'll let you find them out online.

The cache originally contained two chrome egg cups, some jewellery, a multifunction credit card tool and a log book and pencil.
