Geocache Description:

Another cache down Dunvant Brickworks!, But this time more of an extreme one! The cache is located on an island in the top lake of the brickworks, which I had a great laugh exploring using a rubber dingy with some friends a couple of years ago, ending up in the water. The cache is a .50 cal Ammo box

This Extreme cache was placed after noticing not so many challenging caches in the local area, and is perfect for those of you who are fed up finding loads of boring micros and want more of a challenge.
YOU ATTEMPT THIS CACHE AT YOUR OWN RISK.
  • *Equipment needed*
  • Boat e.g. Rubber dingy, kayak, hovercraft etc.
  • Life jacket if unable to swim at least 50m.
  • Sturdy shoes, boots, wellies.
  • *The crossing*
  • The cache is best accessible form the suggested place (N51.37.776, W.004.1.689) it is about a 30m paddle, but if you feel another way is safer then that is fine. watch out for the piranhas that were released into the lake a few years back, and take care avoiding the jagged stumps of the trees that once grew in this valley before it became flooded.
  • *The Island*
  • Once you have survived the lethal crossing, you should anchor your boat near the flat part of the island.
  • The coordinates given are for the cache itself, do not rely on these as signal is poor, the top of the island isn't that large. In order to open the box you must search the island for a 3 digit code.
  • Now just simply sign the logbook and return safely.
*A few things to note*
I recommend parking at Dunvant meadow, and follow the cycle track towards Gowerton until the turning for Dunvant brickworks from then on you can use the map below or just let your gps lead you the way.(this is about a 500m walk)
I do not recommend attempting solo, and please make sure someone knows where you are and your intentions.
Choose sensible clothing, prefrebly ones your not worried about getting submerged in boggy water, in the likely event of capsizing
The lakes water level changes considerably throughout the year, best time to venture across is after plenty of rainfall, (like the picture below) this way there is less of a bog/swamp and more of a lake present.
Do not attempt during icy temperatures, it may look nice but getting another smilie isn't worth the risk.
I take no responsibility for anything that may happen to you or your possessions whilst seeking this cache.
This is at a lovely location(In the right conditions) and I hope you will enjoy the wildlife and finding the cache.
If you are intending to visit this cache and have any questions in advance please feel free to email me via my profile.
Good luck. Please do not give the game away in your logs, and make sure to get some pictures
Congratulations daidragon on being the FTF!
