Welcome to Reedy Creek Fire Department's Station number 3! This is the third in a series of caches in the Reedy Creek Improvement District! There are a total of four in the series.
This cache is .6 miles (less than 1 km) from Cinderella's Castle in the Magic Kingdom!
Congratulation to ValgardThunderHammer and RunnerDude69 who received First to Find certificates and three Disney Dollars (accepted at all Disney locations). Although they arrived separately, they worked together to get the FTF and split it. Way to go!
Fire Station 3 houses Engine 31, Rescue 31 and 32.
This station was originally located at the corner of Floridian Way and Center Drive. That building was the first permanent fire station at Reedy Creek and opened in 1982. Prior to that, all Reedy Creek Fire Stations since 1968 were portable buildings (trailers). It was then known as "Reedy Creek Fire Headquarters Station 1." It was re-designated "Station 3" when the new headquarters building was opened just south of EPCOT. The steel building is unique. It has a sprinkler system ON THE ROOF. This is to wash down the roof to clear fireworks debris. Magic Kingdom fireworks are launched from an fenced off area just west of the building. That old building is currently used as the Technical Services Building for the Reedy Creek Improvement District. Technical Services responsible for maintaining and testing most of the equipment used by the fire department as well as all the vehicles owned by the Reedy Creek Improvement District. Technical Services also provides a training area.
This station covers the Magic Kingdom and all the hotels in this area. In addition, they cover most of the Ft. Wilderness Campground. Major roads covered are World Drive north of EPCOT Center Drive and Reams Road. They also back up other areas of the Disney Resort area.
Note: Just past the fire station, Maple Road is restricted to authorized vehicles and personnel and the gate and fence is monitored by Walt Disney World Security.
TRIVIA:
The fire station is located at 1001 Maple Road which was renamed shortly before the station opened. The original name was Dump Road because it leads to the Disney World trash dump.
Deer roam freely around the Disney property and often walk right up to the fire station. You will most likely encounter deer at dawn and dusk.
Speaking of wildlife: Yes! There are alligators in the pond. Sometimes. DO NOT FEED ALLIGATORS. It is against the law and makes alligators lose their instinctive fear of humans. Most alligators will move away from you naturally. If they don't, they have been fed and are dangerous. Please respect our official state reptile!
