Tutto inizia con una leggenda... Siamo intorno
al 1200 e Siena e Firenze erano perennemente in conflitto per la
supremazia del territorio che si estende tra le due città. Stanchi
di guerre e rappresaglie, le due città decidono di stabilire i
propri confini in maniera più pacifica ed "equa". All'alba di un
giorno prefissato due cavalieri sarebbero partiti rispettivamente
da Firenze (l'uno) e da Siena (l'altro) in direzione dell'altra
città. Il posto in cui i due si fossero incontrati avrebbe segnato
il confine dei territori tra le due città. Il momento della
partenza sarebbe stato sancito dal canto del gallo (allora non
esistevano le sveglie).
I fiorentini però, forti della loro astuzia, presero un gallo (nero
per l'appunto) e lo tennero chiuso al buio e a digiuno per una
settimana. Arrivato il giorno fatidico, i fiorentini tirarono fuori
il gallo molto presto quando era ancora buio e questo si mise a
cantare immediatamente, cosicché il cavaliere fiorentino partì
immediatamente.
Quando il cavaliere senese incontrò quello fiorentino erano ad
appena 12 km da Siena, e Firenze ebbe il predominio su tutto il
territorio che oggi costituisce in buona parte il Chianti.
Leggenda a parte, Firenze nel 1384 costituì una alleanza
diplomatica e militare tra le città rurali appartenenti ai suoi
territori del chianti in chiave anti senese. Il suo nome era Lega
del Chianti ed il simbolo scelto fu proprio un gallo nero. Vi
facevano parte i territori di Radda (capoluogo della Lega), Gaiole
e Castellina. La Lega fu soppressa solo nel 1774 e suddivisa nei
tre comuni attuali facenti capo alle tre città sopra citate.
In seguito, il simbolo del Gallo Nero è stato adottato dal
Consorzio del Marchio Storico Chianti Classico, fondato nel 1924:
il primo organismo del genere a costituirsi in Italia.
La cache è situata nei pressi di Radda e vuol essere un invito a
visitare questo stupendo paese, ricco di storia e tracce del suo
glorioso passato.

It all starts with a legend ... We are around at
1200 d.c. and Siena and Florence were perpetually in conflict for
the supremacy of the territory that lies between the two cities.
Tired of war and retaliation, the two cities decided to establish
its own borders in a more peaceful and "fair" fashion.
At the dawn of a prefissed day, two knights would start
respectively from Florence (one) and Siena (the other) in the
direction of the other city. The place where the two had met would
mark the border of territories between the two cities. The time of
departure would have been laid by the rooster (at that time there
were no alarm clocks).
The Florentines, however, relying on their cunning, took a cock
(black for the note) and held closed in the dark and fasting for a
week. Came the fateful day, the Florentines took out the cock very
early when it was still dark and it immediately began to sing, so
that the Florentine knight left immediately.
When the Siena's knight met the florentine one, they were away just
12 km from Siena so Florence had the dominion over all the
territory that now constitutes much of the Chianti.
Legend aside, Florence in 1384 represented a diplomatic and
military alliance between cities and rural areas in the Chianti
belonging to its versus Siena . His name was the League of Chianti
and the symbol chosen was just a black cock. We were part of the
territory of Radda (capital of the League), Gaiole and Castellina.
The League was abolished only in 1774 and divided into three
municipalities belonging to the current three cities mentioned
above.
Later, the symbol of the Gallo Nero was adopted by the Marchio
Storico Chianti Classico Consortium, founded in 1924: The first
organization of its kind to form in Italy.
The cache is located near Radda and wants to be an invitation to
visit this beautiful country, rich in history and traces of its
glorious past.
