Welcome to
Rasher
This is one of six caches placed on
a steep public accessible track between Highcliff Road and
Turnbulls Bay.
The track consists of two sections.
First there is a steep section that follows the line of the road
from which the caches get their name. The second section is less
steep and follows a marked track across a working farm.
All six caches can be done by going
up one track, walking along Highcliff Road and coming down the
other. Which way you go is up to you. The total length of the track
is about 2km and should take about an hour to do the complete
return trip.
Regardless of which way you go
the track is very boggy in places, especially at the Turnbulls
Bay end. Gumboots are essential footwear after heavy rain. There is
a stream that runs alongside the track near the Turnbulls Bay end
and care should be taken with little cachers.
The caches take their name from the
street at the Turnbulls Bay end of the track. Papa has memories
when he was a child of sitting in the back seat with his two
brothers while his own Papa gave his Mama driving lessons
going up and down the street.
Please note that one of
these tracks crosses a working farm. The Harbour Cone block,
which contains the track, was purchased by the Dunedin City Council
in 2008. Plans for the block, including a controversial
residential subdivision, are still being considered by the
Council.
The track is closed between 1st
September and 1st November each year for lambing. No dogs are
allowed on the farm section of track
You are looking for a 200 ml
container.
There
are a number of rock walls along the track - there is no need to
demolish any of the walls to retrieve any parts of the
caches.
