Geocache Description:

This cache educates Ada County residents about the threatening noxious weed Jointed Goatgrass. Keep an eye out for this invasive weed species – this tall grass resembles wheat and is seen growing in pastures, rangelands, and within wheat fields. Once growing in a wheat field the two species can actually cross-pollinate. An infestation of Jointed Goatgrass can destroy an entire wheat field. This cache is located near the Oregon Trail Historic Reserve off of Highway 21.

To access this cache, park in the newly built lot near the Oregon Trail Historic Reserve just off Highway 21. The trail starts here and heads towards the river. Take the trail that runs near the power poles and veer left onto another trail just after the third pole (could be the fourth). The cache is located down that trail, near a large pile of lava rocks, and up inside some sage brush. Please take note on the Jointed Goatgrass that may be growing in the area and should you see this noxious weed in other sections of Ada County, we ask that you please log the GPS coordinates and submit them to Ada County Weed Control either by following the links below or by emailing them to weedandpest@adaweb.net.
