Geocache Description:

This cache is our tribute to the City of North Tonawanda.

This cache is our tribute to the City of North Tonawanda. Though we did not grow up in NT we have called it home for more that 25 years.

The area was first settled as new homesteaders expanded out from Wheatfield in the early 1800’s. In 1865 North Tonawanda officially became a village within the larger Town of Wheatfield. As the population and commerce grew North Tonawanda was eventually incorporated as a city in 1897.

Known as the LUMBER CITY, N.T. was a hub for lumber transportation right through the 1970s due in large part to the city’s proximity to sources of lumber in Western New York and Canada and easy access to transportation as the western terminus of the Erie Canal and a major rail hub heading West.

In keeping with its reputation as the Lumber City, the Lumberjack has been a longtime and beloved mascot of NT High School and its athletic programs. It is only fitting that the NT LUMBERCACHE sits in the backyard of the mighty Lumberjacks.

There is adequate public parking at the parking coordinates listed, please don’t park in school lots. Use stealth as the area often has many muggles out and about. There is room for small tractable items (coins or TBs) but limited space for many trade items. We left a small pencil but you should bring your own a pen to be safe.

If you are stealthy you will see a few deer who call this area home. We see them every time we are back here. Plenty of skeeters in the summer months, bug spray is suggested.

Please return the cache exactly as you found it and try not to offer additional clues in your log posts.

Have fun!

Congrats go to FLASH JR 373 and FLASH 777 for FTF honors!
