Starting in 1949 and running through 1962 with only a year
hiatus from 1954-1955. Johnny Dollar was the "the insurance
investigator with the action-packed expense account." His
adventures as a freelance Insurance investigator took him all
around the world in search of the truth behind the clients of the
Hartford based Universal Adjustment Bureau, a clearinghouse for the
many insurance companies. Most of his cases were to stop fraud
associated with what would be discovered as murder. As he solved
his cases he would routinely give an amount for his expense report;
Taxi ride $2.58, or .10 for a long distance phone call, usually
back to the Adjustment Bureau. During its years on the radio,
Johnny was played by no more than 8 actors. Starting with Dick
Powell was in the original audition show, but left this role for
another detective role. Charles Russell played the role from
February 1949-January 1950. The last to play the role was Mandel
Kramer who played the role from June of 1961 to September 1962.
Although this radio show did have a TV pilot in 1962, it never made
it to the screen as a series and will only forever live on along
the airways of time.
To locate this cache Johnny provided numbers from his expense
