Geocache Description:

Chulmleigh Loop

This is a series of 22 caches round an oval shaped loop plus the Beacon Trio series thrown in also.

Distance: 6 Miles

Chulmleigh, a small ancient market town, which has recently been much improved, is pleasantly seated on an acclivity on the north side of the Little Dart, about a mile from its confluence with the river Taw, eight miles S. of South Molton, 17 Miles SSE of Barnstaple and 23 miles NW of Exeter.

This is a long walk around quiet countryside with beautiful views. Much of this walk is over rolling hills, it goes through attractive woodland and open hill country. Although there is a certain amount of road walking included in it, most of the roads are very quiet and pleasant to walk. At times you will have great views of Dartmoor and Exmoor. Unfortunately there are parts of the walk which are very muddy, even in the dry weather. You may need to negotiate 2 small streams.

When you get to the Beacon there is a picnic table in the shelter of the wooded area.

You may be lucky enough to meet sheep, cows, chickens and pheasants. Look out for Foxes after cache 5 along the hedge line. We’ve seen cubs playing on two occasions.

There are 5 dog friendly stiles, 3 none dog friendly stiles, 20 gates and 3 small bridges.

Parking is available in the town square or the town car park next to the church.

Not suitable for bicycles or buggies
Strong footwear advisable

For some of the smaller caches you will need a pen/pencil

Cache is now a 35mm film case as the last cache got muggled
