**************CONGRATS FTF:Postee**********
The Hanoverarians- Victoria- last of the house of Hanover, Born May 24th 1819
She is the only daughter to Edward, Duke of Kent who was the 4th son to King George the Third. Her dad died shortly after her birth which made her an heir to the throne, she had 3 uncles ahead of her succession to the throne, all whom had no Children, and she became Queen at age 18 in 1837. She has had the longest reign on the throne in British History, of 63 years and 216 days she died in Jan, 22, 1901.
Canada celebrated the date of Victoria's birth since it was declared a holiday in this country on 1845. This holiday is a Canadian Tradition, and doesn't exist in most of England but is celebrated in parts of Scotland, where it is an offical Holiday.
While the holiday moves around, the original rules stated it to be celebrated annually on the 24th of May, regardless of what the day is unless its a Sunday, then it would become the Monday. SO for us who love our long weekends we are ever so grateful they changed it, if not we'd have the sunday off and have to work the Monday!!
Not all of Canada are happy to be celebrating a Monarch's birth Quebec has renamed this holiday Fete de Dollard, after a French hero who helped fight against the Iroiquois in 1660.
Why the name Hanoverarians?? well the House of Hanover was the Family that Victoria came from and she remained from the house of Hanover even after marrying Prince Albert, Duke of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha.
Anyways Happy Birthday to Victoria, last of the Hanoverarian's
