Geocache Description:

Luggate Creek Track, accessible by car from Pisa Road off State Highway 6 just south of Luggate. The track can also be reached by following the sealed walkway starting at the Luggate Bridge on State Highway 6. Park opposite Luggate Pub if using this option.

Turn off state highway 6 into Pisa Road and follow to park at S 44 44.613, E 169 16.333. A DOC sign marks the start of the Luggate Creek Track. This track connects to the Upper Clutha Track system. Distances from the sign are: Footbridge 15 minutes, Shortcut Road car park 45 minutes and Albert Town 3-4 hours.

Prepared to be surprised. The distance between the start of the track and the footbridge features waterfalls, ravines, plus splendid views of the Clutha River at the Devil's Nook. The name was given by rafters who piloted platforms of timber down the river to Cromwell during the Dunstan gold rush days in the 1860's. The timber, used for mining and settlement purposes, was cut at Makarora and floated down to the head of Lake Wanaka.
