Every backcountry has coyotes and this one also has its share. They are beautiful animals that have a bad image often depicted as a trickster or a cowardly and untrustworthy animal.
I've seen plenty in this area including once while standing very close to this cache. It was a bit surprising as I was making quite a bit of noise while doing trail maintenance. As I came around the corner I saw something move about 100' down the trail which turned out to be a coyote, it looked at me with as much surprise as I at it, and it turned and ran down off the trail.
Another time in a lower section of the trails, I was trail running and came around the corner and upon a mama and three larger pups. The pups all scattered around as if they didn't know what to do, I think this was probably their first human interaction. Mama was much more stoic heading off into the brush a little ways to stand as a reference point then waited for her cubs to gravitate to her from out of the chaos.
