Geocache Description:

On the Historic Site

This geocache is placed, with full permission, on the property of BC’s oldest church. Christ Church (Anglican) was built in 1861. Designed by Captain Grant of the British Royal Engineers in 1861, at the height of the Fraser Gold Rush, Christ Church was at the centre of B.C.'s early life. This church was built to develop a strong British presence in an American dominated population.

The church was made a national historic site in 1995 and is recognized for its gothic revival style. The historic site provides costumed interpretations of the church’s function and importance during the Gold Rush as well as school programs and field trip opportunities.

To hear more fascinating facts about BC and the Church’s history follow our FaceBook page "Christ Church Historic Site" and don’t forget to visit the church during its regular operating season hours for in inside look at the oldest church in BC!

The cache is a regular sized lock-in-lock container placed at the church.
