Geocache Description:

Pronounced Joppy.

Founded in 1870 by a freed slave, Joppa was one of the first Freedman towns in North Texas. Named for a port city in the Bible. Joppa roughly translates from Hebrew to "beautiful" or "beginning."

It was incorporated into Dallas in the 1950s.

Only six miles from downtown, it spent decades virtually cut off from Dallas by the rail-yard to the West and the Trinity to the East.
In recent years, the Linfield Rd Bridge spans the rail-yard, allowing access for DART service and utilities into the community.

The cache location is in the new chain of wetlands, part of the Trinity River Corridor Project.
