The area is composed of 1,625 acres of open land for public use; made up mainly of swampy lands, old cranberry bogs and cedar forest. (The bog complex used to be the biggest in the world), The site is no longer commercially farmed, and is managed by the MA Dept. of Fisheries and Wildlife. Click this link for a detailed map.
The unused bogs are being taken over by bushes and small trees. Eventually it will all be wetland forest. For the moment, it's the best spot on the South Shore to see heron, egrets, swans and ducks.
This was fairly close to the park's south entrance, but that entrance has been closed due to a property conflict. Now, you must use the north entrance, and it's a hefty 2 mile walk to the southwest dike trail. So, I've changed the terrain rating to 3.
The cache is in a forest highland area crossed by a few footpaths.
